connectivity errors between W2k3 server and CIFS server

Over the course of the last week or two we have been getting the following types of errors between the CIFS servers and a specific W2K3 server. This is our imaging system. The server manages the users access to the documents and makes all the connections to the CIFS servers via a specific network user account. Nothing has changed in Active Directory and the imaging people say nothing has changed one their end. Below are the errors (they show up in the Windows event log):

{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\LanmanRedirector. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \\gsarchive\gsarchive1\Policy Archive\gs_policy_2008\gs_policy_2008.tpr. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

please open a service request for that

my initial guess would be a networking problem - but troubleshooting would require correlation of client errors, Celerra log files and a network trace

If you are using UNC paths it might also be caused by problems talking to the AD server
