why is the web ui so slow?

Why is EMC Celerra Manager so slow?  Does it have to do with Java?  Does anyone have any tricks to speed it up?  Is this fixed in Unisphere?  We are not on that release yet.

I'm using Java 1.6.0_23 on Windows 7.  I use IE8, Chrome or Firefox (but firefox has a security error if I try to log into more than one Celerra).  Primarilly use Chrome as it's noted for it's speed.

can't comment on Unisphere but Celerra Manager has always been a dog for me, going back to Dart 5.3 days. The more objects you have (file systems, shares, cifs servers ..etc) the slower it gets.  I don't have enough patience to wait for all the windows to load, so cli is my tool of choice

This is just dog slow. It's so bad in parts that the UI can't actually cope. A good example is the user quota tool when you have around 5000 users per volume. We've had to resort to the command line tools and/or the XML API.

Have you tried restarting the Tomcat service on the Celerra Manager ?

    From the Celerra Manager console

    # /nas/http/webui/etc/tomcat restart
