I am looking to isl two new MDS-9124E (HP C class blade san switch) into our existing fabrics. Each fabric consists of a core 9216I and two MDS9140 isl'ed back to the 9216. Only problem I see is that our existing fabric San-Os version is 2.1(2b) on all switches. The 9124E was released on March 19th and of course the San-os version is 3.1(2a) which is newer than our existing. I checked with HP and they do not recommend downgrading the san-os version to match our fabric.
Anyone run into an issue similar to this? any recommendations?
Thanks
While the combination of SAN-OS 3.1(2a) and 2.1(2b) should work according to Cisco's tests, EMC has not tested or approved 3.1(2a) SAN-OS. My personal recommendation would be to upgrade the other switches to 3.x SAN-OS before you ISL them. You may also want to check EMC's Support Matrix for our tested supported configurations.
Personal recommendation 1. downgrade the new one to 3.1(2), which is EMC supported version. 2. allocate 2 ports in old switch in an unused VLAN. 3. Trunk the 2 ports in old switch to new switch, see if successful. 4. You might wish to try out port channel and/or trunking 5. If things ok, ISL normally.
