You can use DX Search Module 1.2.
The DiskXtender Search Module software enables you to index files stored on an extended drive, create search queries, and then view the files returned by the search query.

The DiskXtender Search Module includes two primary components:
◆ The Index and Search Engine (ISE)
◆ The user interface

The ISE manages content indexing and is installed on a separate server from the
DiskXtender server. The user interface provides a way to search a collection of indexes for files managed by DiskXtender, and then to view the search results. It also enables you to perform several important administrative tasks on the ISE, such as indexpreparation tasks and the addition of index file storage.

Thanks for your quick response, the main objective of this is to provide federated search across the organisation. From reading the release notes, I can't determine if it can do that...

Each site (of which there are 6) has between 1 - 15 TB of data that needs to be indexed, and query-able from any other site, and returned into one result set.

If the Search Module supports Open Search (or can be made to) then I can use SharePoint to federate the results...?

Check out the product called Centera Seek and Chargeback Reporter to see if Seek will do what you need.

Does Centera Seek search within documents (such as MS Word, PDFs)? From the demo, I can only suppose that it searches over the user supplied meta data...

I have some concerns around how the user would then access the files returned in the search results. Would Centera be aware of the file location on the DiskXtender volume, and provide the correct path for the user to access the file?
