Reappropriating Extended Drive Storage Space
Got a question I hope much brighter minds than me can answer. Curenlty we have DiskXtender 6.2 utilizing a LUN on CLARiion for the extended drive. We want to utilize that LUN for another solution. Could I do a meta data export and make a new extended drive on a local drive along with importing the meta data there as well? We have all the data on tape and will keep it there. We hardly ever need to retrieve the data but are required to hold on to the data for few years. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Mike, thanks for the offer.. but we are going from the Clariion then to tape... I really just need to make sure DiskXtender can find the files on tape once I move the meta data. Unfortunatley we don't have any money to even get more services at this time. Thanks again though.

If your 'backing store' for this extended drive is on Centera and you wish to keep this data for compliance but retire your EOSL DXW install, my company has a service to provide a fully compliant migration from DX/Centera over to a compliant NAS target such as VNX, Data Domain or Isilon. The end result would be a mirror of your extended drive but with fully hydrated files rather than stubs. We're able to perform this migration at high speeds (3+ TB/day) and with per-file auditable chain-of-custody reporting. We're an EMC service partner or can provide services directly to customers.
