BIOS update with dead battery
I am using a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop. I was planning to upgrade to windows 10 and i needed to update my drivers and BIOS. The issue is that the battery needs to be charged during the BIOS update. My battery is not detected since its an old one.
Should i replace the battery/adapter or try to force the BIOS update via forceit? Has anybody's motherboard crashed via forcing it?

Replace the battery period. If you try to force it and lose power during the update the MB is bricked. However unless the update addresses a specific problem you are having with your system, then leave well enough alone. Updating just for the sake of updating is not a great idea with Dell systems. If the system is running well there really is no need and the forum is full of posts about updates to the BIOS that went bad.

Your old model is not supported for upgrading to windows 10. There are no win 10 drivers for your model. The bios does nothing to change that. Your driver download page says Windows 10 is not supported on this product. View system requirements
To update the bios you must have a working battery. Yours is actually dead so even with the charger plugged in (or replaced) it will not update the bios. The adapter is not charging the battery. It is running the computer. You must use the adapter all the time. Consider replacing the computer instead.
