Keyboard nonresponsive

A few weeks ago, my keyboard stopped working completely. I can't type anything, toggle the caps lock or key lights or anything. The touchpad and the fingerprint reader still work. I am using a bluetooth keyboard at the moment, and when I don't have it my only option is to go into tablet mode and use the touch keyboard.

I have tried quite a few things to get the device working again and I'm worried I'll have to send it in for repairs which can take weeks and a sizeable chunk of money. My efforts so far:

  • restarting
  • updating drivers
  • uninstalling the keyboard drivers then restarting
  • Making sure it isn't in tablet mode
  • asking it politely to work
  • yelling at the computer

I don't do anything extreme to cause damage to the computer. It has never been wet. However I do take it to work daily, but I put it in a cushioned case before placing it in my bag. The Dell Inspiron 7391 shell doesn't seem to be as sturdy as other devices, still, I do my best to take care of my devices.

An outdated or corrupt driver could be the reason your keyboard isn't working. Step 1: Right-click on Start and select Device Manager. Step 2: Expand Keyboards. Step 3: Right-click on the affected keyboard and select Update driver.
