E3440 integrated webcam does'nt work

Hello,

I have a question referring to the integrated webcam in my dell 3440 Laptop. The webcam doesn't work anymore, i didn't use it for a long time. I tried now the webcam with skype and the camera app of windows 10 (latest version, all drivers new; latest bios);in skype no picture / in the camera app just a flickering message "nocameraattached"; the LED beneath the webcam is also only "flickering". I tried a ubuntu Live System; the led beneath the camera is in this case on; but also no picture. The ePSA tool says camera o.k.??, the PC support tool does'nt complete the test of the webcam (windows 10). I've tried a lot of workouts (removing / reinstalling the camera; disable the usb ports /removing/reinstalling the usb drivers, using a system backup of february, reinstalling the chipset drivers) nothing works.

My questions are: Is it a hardware defect ? (for example broken camera / broken cable; may a not correct fixed cable) 2. I thought about flashing the bios as a try to fix the problem; but the newest bios is installed and the bios software will not reflash with the same version. Flashing the software of an older Bios version is not recommended.

Could it be a "hardware detect problem" during the boot process ?

Thanks for Your comments/ideas

Update:

I did the ePSA Test once more; camera was dected as "new device" during the ePSA tool was running.

The SupportAssist Test runs about 47 minutes; then stopped with "not passed" at the RGB Pixeltest.

Does the Device Manager show the webcam?

When you installed Windows 10, did you install Windows 10 drivers especially the chipset driver?

Thanks for Your answer; I couldn't exactly remember the date of changing from Win7 (preinstalled on the Laptop), but once I did this I always looked for Driver updates at the Dell Support page for my system; and I'm quite shure I installed all driver listed incl the Intel management Driver and the chipset driver.

Reading Your reply I looked at the Drivers one more time: The Chipset Driver was published July 2015; but under details there is a note: last update 14.03.2020. Name and size are exactly the same to the driver I installed; is this an updated driver ?

    Thanks

So; I reinstalled the chipset driver, the touchpad driver and the video driver (all last update after 12/2019); no change . The camera is still not working; interestingly the led beneath the camera ist still sometimes flickering, although the camera is deactivated in the devicemanager.

    with regards

    Try the solution in https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Webcam-Not-Detected/td-p/4453149

If not, report back with Hardware ID etc for the webcam shown in Device Manager.

First thanks for Your replies; I followed the instructions in the mentioned posts; but - sorry - also the Uninstalling/reinstalling of the complete USB Hub didn't solve the problem. I really think it's a hardware issue; maybe a loose cable or something like that ,-)

    With kind regards foerters

    I suppose anything is possible.

Download the manual and see whether such a cable exists.

I have bought more than my share of used laptops with webcams on eBay, and I have always gotten them to work. Driver problems.

The cable is integrated in the screen unit cable; the screen has no problem. Also moving the screen during trying to adress the webcam doesn't show any effect.

If it's a driver problem - wich driver; all new / reinstalled?

    Thanks for Your replies!
