Installing Red Hat Linux hung up

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and when I tried to install Linux it hung up with the message:

ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq14

Any one can offer a solution to this problem to enable to carry on Linux installation?

Thanks.

I have the same problem trying to install RHEL3 on a Dell Poweredge R710. It hangs at:

    ehci-hcd 00:1a.7: USB 2.0 enabled, EHCI 1.00, driver 2003-Jan-22

I am interested for a solution to phoenixdragon's problem also.

The only solution Dell can offers is to use Ubuntu and nothing else unless you are an expert in installing other flavours of Linux.

Just follow the instruction to get a recovery disk and install your own copy of Ubuntu 9.02 or whatever.

I am DCSE, I will look into other alternatives and post it here if I can find a better solution.

I have the liberty to look in the DCSE area. Red Hat is not supported in any of Dell products unless it is Poweredge or Precision.

If you really need Linux other than PowerEdge or Precision then you have to use Ubuntu for the obvious reason of drivers support.

No one bother to develop special drivers for Red Hat.

    This is the story.

I used Suse Linux Enterprise 10 it seemed to install in my Inspiron 1520.

I downloaded the latest Red Hat Enterprise 5, it also installed in my Inspiron 1520 but then it a beta release, expect smeared dodgy display. This version seemed to borrow a lot from Ubuntu, even the menu bar is at the top left hand side like Ubuntu.
