Mandriva Linux printer PPD file needed

Dell does not support Linux.
I want to connect up my Dell 1700 printer to my computer with the Mandriva Linux operating system.  Linux needs "manufacturer's PPD files" to do so.  Dell says they cannot supply them.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

i am in the same boat brother - just went to saboyan, i have a 5110cn color laser printer. here is an excerpt from online search.... 2. Install a PPD file. CUPS requires a PPD file to define how it will use the printer and driver (if any). PPD files come from several sources, be sure you get yours from the right place: If you have a PostScript printer Obtain the PPD file from your printer's vendor. Typically it will be carefully hidden somewhere in your vendor's "driver" for Windows. We also distribute some PPD files here. You do not need a driver (Step 1), just the PPD file. i would google dell 1700 ppd or take a look at the printer driver depositories that are part of the linux community (google again) i burnt my vista boot in the processing of installing saboyan so i am really hurting
