Alienware Aurora R4 and Intel Xeon E5 CPUs
Hi all
Have done a search of the forums but cannot find the definitive yes/no answer about Xeon support.
I have the R4 with Bios revision A11, fitted with i7 3820
Popped in a Xeon E5-2680 V2 and it won't boot, even though the R4 is based on the X79 chipset.
Has anyone got an R4 running with E5-2680 or 1607 v2 ?
It's not a memory related issues is it, needing ECC maybe?
Any help greatly appreciated

(also tried the i7 3820 in a Lenovo S30 x79 chipset and that didn't work either)

Actually have E5 2670 overclocked to 3.5

I have have the 8 core XEON in since 2012. They work, but more than likely you'll need to go back to a version 1 xeon. You can get ES versions on ebay, they work fine.

what bios did you use? is it the stock bios?

IIRC, others have tried Xeon processors in various Alienware desktops over the years, and they usually don't work.
I think motherboard BIOS is missing required micro-code.
