Aurora freeze up

last week  purcahsed an Alienware Aurora with the ATI 5970 video card. Out of the box it would freeze up all the time so I reinstalled the OS  ( Win 7 home Pro 64 ), I updated the display drivers to ATI Catalyst 10.3 and I disabled the HD sound etc....  Now its not freezing on the desk top but Games still freeze up all the time. I have been looking at some other forums I found out that a bunch of the first realeased 5970 cards were faulty and they would course the pc to freeze up. Now since this card is only been on the market a few months I wonder If I got one of the faulty cards. I know one thing for sure and that is my PC should not be freezing all the time!

    * Power the PC off
    * Open the case cover
    * Look at the power supply cables going to the video card
    * If your video card has two power supply connectors, they each must be coming from a separate power supply lead/bundle. One power supply lead/bundle cannot be split into two to power the video card. If they are, find an unused power supply lead/bundle and connect it to one of the video card power supply connectors

    The card was powered from the one lead. I changed it as you suggested so I will let you know if the problem has been solved or not. Time to run some games

    Thanks for the help!

    i think my freezing issue has ben solved. I've only had one freeze up since fixing the power cord ( 24hrs ago ) .  Before that it would freeze up just about every time i would start a game.  My question is, Does Dell train the people who assemble these computers? I think it's rather pathetic that I recieve a new PC that has been assembled incorrectly!

    I do thank you for the help! That I should never have needed!

    That information is pretty new so our builders were not aware of it. They are now.

    Chris

    I have had my Aurora for a year now and had have been fighting with it since day one.
    I've changed out HDs, keyboards spent hours on the phone with tech support. We have
    reloaded and updated drivers. The system would slowly start to lockup and lose
    ability to use the tool bar,mouse, login.......and so on.
    Just today I read your response.....it worked! Power was off a single line and I switched to
    a second independant lead....my machine works! You must convey this to the people
    that are assembling the systems, such an easy fix such a horrible mistake at the factory.
    The large video cards need the power to run properly otherwise you are wasting a lot
    of peoples time. My system is

    with a nvidia GTX 480 card.
