Go to SolutionM14X issue: Volume fluctuates when connected with Wireless HD
When I first got my Alienware M14x laptop, the WirelessHD worked fine. Now, if I use WirelessHD to connect to the television, the audio volume of the television fluctuates the whole time I am watching the stream. There is nothing wrong with the streams, as they work fine on other computers. The audio problem does not seem to be present when connected to the same TV monitor with an HDMI cable. This problem has no relation to the health of the video link, because I have noticed the volume fluctuating even when the WiHD controller says the video link health is 100%.
I tried updating the SiBeam driver to the newest version, but it didn't help. I suspect this is a software problem, perhaps caused by a Windows Update that messed something up. But I am not sure what to do to fix it. Please help.

Shirobi,
Have you considered restoring the operating system to just prior to the windows update to see if it fixes the issue?

There doesn't seem to be a restore point in the right time frame. I first noticed the problem in August or late July, but I ignored it for a long time because I assumed it was a problem with the streams I was watching.
If this is a software problem, it would be caused by a driver, right? And all of the drivers are listed in the Device Manager? I looked through all of the drivers listed in the Device Manager, checking their Install Date. Here's what I found:
- One driver has no Install Date listed (a battery driver)
- Two drivers were installed in July (an Intel graphics driver and an NVIDIA graphics driver)
- One driver has been installed since July (the SiBeam driver)
- All other drivers were installed February 2012 or earlier, when the Wireless HD was working fine
The two graphics drivers are suspicious. I rolled back the Intel one first, because I have no clue what it even does (my graphics card is an NVIDIA, I don't have an Intel graphics card). Unfortunately, rolling back the Intel driver did not help.
If I roll back the NVIDIA driver and that doesn't help either, does that mean this is a hardware problem? I.e., either the laptop/transmitter hardware system is messed up, or the television/receiver system is?

Rolling back the NVIDIA driver fixed the problem. I want to document this in case anyone else has a similar issue, so here is my information:
System: Alienware M14x R1 laptop
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1
I had problems with the audio volume fluctuating over a WirelessHD connection when the following driver was installed:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
Version: 8.17.12.9610
Driver date: 2/29/2012
Rolling the driver back to the following fixed the issue:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
Version: 8.17.12.6721
Driver date: 2/18/2011
