Paul's suggestions are excellent and they apply whether you have a broadband connection or a dialup connection.  Spyware is the major cause of problems reported on these forums.   See the following message from ChrisRLG.  Follow his instructions to download, install, update and run Spybot and Ad-Aware and let these programs get rid of anything that they find.  If necessary continue with the instructions for HijackThis and post your log in one of the recommended Spyware removal forums.

How do you connect to the internet?  If you have a broadband connection then we really suggest some sort of spyware protection on your system.  Most likely this popup you are getting is as a result of some sort of malicious spyware.  Do you have antivirus enabled on your computer?  If so, when was the last time that you did a full system scan?  There are many good programs out there that can detect and remove viruses and spyware.  Unfortunately I do not know of one that will do both, but McAfee/Norton remains strong on the virus front, and Sunbelt Suite, Spyhunter, and Adaware remain good candidates on the spyware front.  There's no reason to panic but it is something that you need to get taken care of b/c in my experience spyware does nothing but slow your system down.  Once you have one piece of spyware, you open the door for other such programs to get into your computer, thus slowing it down even more.  It's a vicious cycle unfortunately. 

I know initially I said that the stipulation is that you would have broadband internet.  It does happen with dial-up (especially AOL) but not quite as often, simply b/c the bandwidth simply isn't there for a quick penetration.  Hope this helps!  :-)

Thank you for your reply and suggestions, I have Comcast Broadband connection and I do have the current Norton Internet Security/Anti Virus enabled. I do a full system scan once a week and keep my live updates current.  I have some other suggestions as well and I will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for your suggestions, Spyware was mentioned to me today at work, I don't know what it is nor how it could have attached itself to my computer however, I will take a look at ChrisRLG's message, try it and let you know how it turns out.

Spyware are programs that report information about you back to the sites that they originated from. They come from almost all sites that you may visit and the installation of programs such as Kaza can install more of these than just normal surfing can account for.
