CPU Upgrade
Can I upgrade my CPU? I have a Desktop Inspiron 530 with an "Intel Pentium Dual-Core" sticker on the front of the machine. Belarc Advisor claims I have a "1.60 gigahertz Intel Core Duo" processor with a 0RY007 motherboard. I figure the maximum upgrade possible is an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor. Am I correct? Will my rig go up in flames, or will I lose data if try to upgrade? Will I need to change the bios? Is upgrading is easy as popping out the old CPU, popping in the new CPU, and applying some heatsink thermal paste? About how much faster would my computer run?

It will work. No, you won't lose any data. Flash the bios to the latest before installing the CPU.
