    I read the article with great interest. Very helpful. One problem: ScanDisk does not appear on my list of System Tools:( Suggestions? Help?

    accessories/system tools/ disk defragmentor. make sure to turn off screensavers and running programs. as to the other guys question...go to my computer. right click on the drive you wnat to scandisk>properties>tools>error checking

    If you are running Windows XP, you don't have scandisk. Instead, you will use chkdsk. For an explanation of the switches to use with that command, open Help and Support and enter chkdsk in the search box.
