Device Cannot start (code 10) error

For some reason my sound has disappeared from my computer.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver but this does not seem to help.  At one point I sawa message saying "unable to find sound mixer". 
Can someone please help me on how I can restore my sound.

    Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it fixed.  I am assuming that I have to replace my sound card.  I couldn't find anything on the Dell website to help me.

    I have the same problem. Did you find a solution? And was Dell support able to help?
    I also have lost function in my USB ports, and my laptop is only 1 year old.

    Thanks for responding. Did the Tech support suggest you re-install Windows? What type of PC or Laptop do you have, if you don't mind me asking?
     
    I was told that I might need a new motherboard.
