Start by removing the existing boot partition from the drive. The set the partition and format. Then start the install. For more information you should post to the windows board for the version of windows installed on your system. If you suspect hardware problems you should boot the system to the drivers and utilities CD that came with the system and running the Dell customer diagnostics on the system to see if you have hardware problems.

You should install the Pre-RAID driver shortly boot off your OS CD.   Press F6 shortly after booting, and insert diskette that you create by download the Pre-OS   intel Application Accelerator RAID Editon Pre-Install Driver Drivers.

if the link does not go to the down area and select XPS Gen 2 system to get a list of items.  You want to download the serial ATA category.

 

Thanks TomXPS that did fix the raid problem. Only other problem is now i get past that and it begins to overwrite the old version of windows and is says "Cannot verify drive C:, system may not have enough memory or disk space."

So i tried to fix it on my own by setting "Install OS" to on , in the BIOS, but that didn't do anythning either. Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure why your getting that problem.   But since your doing a fresh install the easiest way would be to delete the partition and create a new one in the OS install.   Of course doing so will loose all the files on the parition.

 

Well i cannot delete that partition in xp setup because it's my only partition and it says "Cannot overwrite partition if temporary installation files are located there.  You mentioned deleting them, did you mean using like Fdisk or something? Haven't made one of those in awhile haha.

Any other ideas?

Do you have a SATA RAID array set up? What option did you choose on the installation partition screen (sixth screenshot on this page, next to step 5)?

nope, sorry, it says exaclty what i wrote, and only what i wrote.

 

In that case you should download the .iso image from MSDN subscription download area.   You then can create the CD from the iso image.    I am also a developer and, wish they would give you the bootable CD with the shipments but for some reason they do not.   Guess it because they boot several systems on one CD or DVD.

Anyway go to the MSDN subscription download area.    If you never used it before you have to have a passport account and tie you passport account to the MSDN account.

 

Not sure what you doing, but you should be booting from the XP CD, and then you can do anything you want with the parition.   Of course shortly after booting from the OS, you have to Press F6 and install the Pre-OS RAID driver from the diskette. 

You should eventually have a screen asking you were to install the OS, at this point I normally either re-format the parition or delete and re-create a new one.    

After installing the OS, you then must install the chipeset driver, video drivers, sound card driver, net work, and finally install the Intel Raid Application Accelerator.   Even if you do not currently have Raid it best to install it, so your ready, just in case.
