Dimension XPS - \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I have tried all the advice re: this issue. Main problem is that the resource disk doesn't work as it says it will. According to the Forum, i should just put in my Windows XP Cd....i didn't get one of those with the pc. I am still paying on all 3 of my Dell computers, and i already had to pay $299 last year to ask one question about the other pc. and any questions i have during that new service, would only be for that one pc. I can not afford to put out anymore money, yet without some sort of help i am lost... Can anyone help. This computer will not boot..it tells me to put in the original Setup CD..and select 'r'......it wont work, i even set the boot sequence to boot the CD Rom 1st. "also as advised"...NOTHING...Would Dell, send me a properly working Setup CD? I can't call them, without paying..I tried, and the moment i give the Service Tag #, i can't get a word in wthout needing to pay first...What can I do?

Thank you, I followed the link you gave me, and was able to order the disks. I received a message that i will get them within 2 - 3 days. Now i just need to pray it will do the trick...I appreciate you responding to me escpessially venting the way i did.
Quick question, with the error message in the subject line, is it really that somehow the file became corrupt or missing, OR is the Hard drive givin out? I know you can't just say what it is, but what are usually the problems when it comes to that message? If it is dying, at this point, what can i do to back up what is currently on the hard drive? Should i bring it somewhere?, I doubt i can load it onto a cd. I also have an external hard drive, but was never able to understand when you back things up, how the heck to get it back off the other successfully? OK, way to many questions i know....I am very thankful for your link. you definately reduced some of my stress. Out of 4 pc's in the house, i'm down to 2 working...and they are all fairly new...so i hope you understand my venting in the original.
Thank you

try this. you are always eligible to request your original operating system disks
