Display orientation change???

I have a situation I have not encountered before. One of my users accidentally dropped a folder on the keyboard. Now the display shows horizontally rather than vertically (i.e., you have to turn the monitor onto its right side in order to view it normally).

I have checked the display settings, but I don't see anything that seems to affect this. I have rebooted the computer, still no luck. This is a Dell Optiplex 170L running Windows XP Professional. While I guess I may be able to correct this by using system restore, I have not tried that yet as I would rather understand how this happened.

When the computer is booting, the screen shows properly, and the Windows XP splash screen shows normally as well. As soon as the login screen shows up, however, it is back to this sideways display mode. This would probably be an interesting way to use your screen if you were working on magazine pages.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I had the same problem, but I thought it happened when I hit ctrl-alt-del (which is wrong for task master on this computer).  I had to use Restore, but I would sure like to know the answer to this in case it happens again.

The same thing happen to my son's laptop.  He play games using different key board combinations.

I looked thru and found a tread topic Upside Down display! 1-20-2006.

    1. Display properties>setting>advanced>iirc clock intel disply adapter>tab rotate.
    2. The easiest was ctrl+alt+down arrow.

I called my 12 year old boy with the instructions (ctrl+alt+down arrow) and it worked.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.  I hope I never have to use it, but it's nice to have.
