E510 Failure
Hi,
Brand new to this so excuse me if I don't know what I am doing.
My 2006 E510 died on me. It gives me an error message that says Floppy diskette write failure then Error Code 650F:0244
I did a diagnositc and it tells me that I have systemn memory problems. ""IDE device failed: Blank media or no media present in optical drive. Test requires media with data (Resource CD, Installation CD)
I get all sorts of messages that Block 112592: Uncorrectable data erro or media is write protected
I am assuming my hard drive is fried. Is that correct? And if so, how do I get the OS from Dell to install a new HD? and finally what is the likelihood and prcoess for getting all of my stuff off?
I am pathetically green so any help appreciated. I cannot even boot up right now.

You could try installing the failed hard drive in a powered USB, SATA enclosure, attach it to a working computer and see if you can transfer the files and folders, or after replacing the hard drive and reloaded windows, when the system is working to your satisfaction, install it as the secondary [Slave] hard drive and see if the files and folders can transfered to the new hard drive.
For this a SATA data cable would be needed, there should be spare SATA power connector inside the case.

Thanks Bev. Is there any chance once I have installed a new HD and OS that I can find a way to get all of my stuff from the damaged drive??

Yes, it would seem that the hard drive has failed.
You need a 3.5", SATA, 7200rpm hard drive, you should be able to buy this from most online, or local computer stores.
The error meessage:
"IDE device failed: Blank media or no media present in optical drive. Test requires media with data"
Means that there was no data disc in the optical drive, for diagnostics to test.
You can request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system, specific to your system, from HERE.
The procedures for replacing the hard drive is HERE
After replacing the hard drive you need to reinstall Windows, drivers and applications.
The instructions for this, is HERE
