Getting started using msconfig
I ran msconfig, chose Diagnostic Startup, rebooted, clicked on the Services tab, and selected Hide all Microsoft Services. Approximately 30 services were listed. I have some questions about how to make use of this information.
First, none of thesee services was called from the Startup program in Start Menu|Programs. How do these programs get started?
One is called juschad, how can I determine what juschad does?
Another is called LightScribe, I deleted Light Scribe from the system what makes msconfig hink its running?

I wouldn't delete the executables, although that is one way to disable them. There is still an entry in the registry indicating that the service exists and that is why you see it in Services and msconfig. You should just disable the service in either program and then it will not start. That way you can always enable it later if you need to. If you delete the program, it's gone.
Personally, I disable almost every service that is not Microsoft (there are a few that do something I actually want) and many of the Microsoft services as well.

I performed Google search and found information about services. Thank you for the direction.:smileyhappy:
Then I began to experiment and have a question. I used msconfig to disable ATI Hotkey Poller; went to Computer Management, Services and found ATI HotkeyPoller. I right clicked, clicked on Properties and found the path to the executable was C:\Windows\system32\ati2evxx.exe. So I delted it. I rebooted the system. Guess what. ATI Hotkey Poller still appeears in Mmsconfig and in Services, and Refreshed them both. I serached the hard drive and the Registry - for ATI Hotkey Poller and for ati2evxx.exe and there is nothing there. Why does ATI Hotkey Pller appear inm MSCONFIG AND srvices?
- it is proable a core system file. There a lot of files that reside in the System 32 folder that come preinstalled in windows. These are the base files that are used in the core function of the Os. Like when you first install an os it looks at your hardware. If it finds hardware for which drivers are already in the OS then it will install them.

Services are not started as applications (e.g. something you put in your startup folder). They are a bit lower level and you control them through msconfig or the Services section of Computer Management.
Use Google to check them out. juschad sounds a lot like the Jave Update scheduler. Do you mean jusched?
