No it occurs only after a complete shutdown/restart. I guess it started happening after i had cable internet installed, but dont see how they could affect it (though the stupid cable USB drivers kept making my comp freeze to the blue screen, that issue was resolved when i began using my ethernet card, and deletd those drivers), and i always ran my Norton Antivirus check very two days. I still dont know why it keeps happening, is it just that Dell's plugs are duds or could it be the fact that this is a logitech cordless/optical mouse?

I have same problem with my Intellimouse. The keyboard is fine.

Machine is Dell Dimension XPS Gaming Machine with Windows XPSP1a.

As long as I Standby or Hibernate I have no problems.  But the minute I shutdown computer and then start it up, my mouse may or maynot (70%not) work. Shutting it down again, by hitting the power button on the XPS and starting it back up, will make the Intellimouse work in 95% of the times.  If not I have to shutdown / restart again.

I think this is an XP problem.

I have a Dim8300 2,8 HT with a Logitech MX Desktop (MX700 Mouse).
I have the same Problem. But i figured out that it's an isue to Hyperthreading or Intel Chipset Driver. Turn HT off and tell me if it's doing fine.
I even made a complete Reinstall of the OS with HT on using the latest available drivers. Everything was ok and worked great.  Then i applied the chipset driver and the problem appeared again. But turning HT off seems to work. But this should not be the solution.......

Everytime  im starting up im getting an big very anoying spike sound and after that the mouse is not working (mx700).

Whats the problem mates! No hardware or drivers changer has been done since j bougt the machine 2,5weeks agou. This error started for 3days ago.

I'm having the same problem with my Dell 8300, I have the Logitech Cordless Mx Duo (MX700 Mouse). When I installed the mouse driver, the cursor will not move. I then started having other Issues with the PC, so I just formated the drive. After I Installed XP Pro (XP Home was preInstalled) I first Installed the mouse driver, No problem, I Installed the keyboard driver, No problem. I restarted the PC several times, No problem, I Installed the network adapter driver, No problem. I then Installed the Sound Max Audio driver, Cursor will not move after rebooting.

I am from the UK and have just received a Dimension 8300 with 3.2G processor, XP Home and use a Logitech wireless keyboard and MX700 mouse.

I had the blue screen of death on the first day (error message was something about Multiple IR Requests). When windows came up the mouse or the keyboard would not work. Sometimes neither worked so had to switch the machine off to reboot it.

Dell support (based in Bangalore, India) tried to help but suggestions did not work and eventually told me to contact Logitech.

Logitech solved the problem in 5 minutes. It is a problem when multiple user accounts are set up on XP (I have 4). The fix is to disconnect the round USB adaptor plug going into the keyboard socket at the back of the PC. Take off the round plug which leaves a USB plug. Plug the USB into one of the spare sockets and hey presto, all is well.
