Firstly ensure the new hard drive is detected in BIOS. If the hard drive is not detected and you run the diagnostics, all the tests will pass assuming the old hard drive is the only hard drive in the machine. Look into the following screen in the BIOS to see if the new Hard Drive is detected:



If you can see two hard drives then everything is fine, else reseat the hard drive power and SATA connectors (also try a different SATA cable if needed). Once the hard drives are detected follow the steps below:

1. Insert Windows DVD into the optical drive.
2. Restart the system.
3. In the Dell logo screen, press to enter the One Time Boot Menu. 
 
 
 
4. Select to boot from DVD. 
 
   

It should boot from DVD now.

i can see the harddrive in bios and when i set to boot from dvd and save --- i still get no boot device---- and i can see dvd in bios also ??

will not boot from disk ---still get no boot device hit any key

Yes, CD drive is also visible in BIOS.It might be SATA 3.

You can use drivers and utility disc and check the computer is able to boot from the drivers disc.

Did you change the boot sequence under BOOT tab?

one dvd.   i have changed sequence to boot from dvd and get the same message-- thanks for your time

It might be that DVD drive may not be working properly.

If the computer is in warranty contact technical support they should be able to replace it.

had new dvd put in -----and new hd---my 620 came with  two disk can i install windows from these disk????

Sure, you can use the discs that came with the system. There shouldn’t be any problem installing the OS with discs. Follow the steps below to install Windows from the disc:

1. Power on the system and watch for the Dell logo to appear.
2. When the Dell logo appears, press the key to load the Boot Menu. If the menu does not appear, restart the system and tap several times at the Dell logo screen.
3. When the Boot Menu appears, highlight the CD/DVD drive (listed as "CDROM", "CD/DVD" or "CD/DVD/CD-RW") entry from the list and press .
4. After Windows 7 Setup loads, confirm the Language, Time, Currency and Keyboard Method settings are correct then click Next.
5. On the Windows 7 Installation page, click Install Now.
6. Review the terms and click I accept the license terms to proceed.
7. On the Which type of installation do you want? window, click Custom (advanced).
8. On the Where do you want to install Windows window, make sure the largest Primary Partition is selected then click Next. If the Primary partition has 0GB free, there should be a separate line for Unallocated Space. Select this unallocated space and click Next.
9. When the Setup window appears, select a user name, password, and picture for your user account.
10. On the next couple of screens, use the default or recommended settings prompted and click Next until you see the Time & Date screen.
11. Click to select your time zone then click Next.

The above steps will help you install a fresh copy of Windows on the machine.
