My suggestion would be to get a new computer. IDE is a pretty slow and ancient technology. If you put a SATA disk in your computer and the hard disk controller is IDE, you will also have to get a PCI card to use it and will be limited to using your hard disks in SATA 1.5 Gb/s mode.

Its happened not for specific application ,some time its shoot when explorer run, some time firefox and some time any setup run..
is this will help ? right now i m using W D IDE Hard drive if i replace it with SATA..
Which GX280 do you have? I recently purchased a pair of small mid tower 280s, one a 2.8 and one a 3.4. While I see an IDE for the CD/DVD, I have SATA for the hard drives. Are you sure that you have an IDE hard drive and not a SATA?
Do you have task manager opened when you see it go to 100%? I see mine spike to 100% when I open firefox or internet explorer as well. The fan speeds up. Then the CPU usage comes back down and the fan slows down. I am interested in what other tasks are using most of the CPU. It could be the antivirus running a scan or ???
But my 280s are the workhorses doing my folding and run great for me.

I have such problem with "Latitude XT"
The Problem appeared after renovation BIOS on version A09.
The Problem appears through several minutes after loading OS.
Application "Task Manager Application" uses the processor on 50%.
Processor fan begins to work much actively.
After recovering the previous version BIOS A08 problem will is solved.
My Specifics:
OS: Win7 32bit installed into VHD.
BIOS: Hardware Virtualization - OnThe other option you have is to troubleshoot your running processes.
Process Explorer is a useful program for investigating running processes: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

What application is using the processor cycles? Once you have this info, you can close that application/stop that service and/or troubleshoot that specific software.
