Re: b110 help
Hi, I have a dell b110 and it's been a good computer. Last week my system board/motherboard went out, I had ordered a brand new system board and got that installed and it's the exact same board that I took out. Now everything is working except for the cd/dvd drive and the computer is not detecting the drive and I have searched for it and I have tried to reinstall the driver's and nothing is working. I took out the cd/dvd drive and connected it to another dell and it still works, Second issue I'm having is since I put this system board in is that the computer will not shut down. I try to shut down and it will restart back up with a blue screen and when I try to restart the blue screen comes up, I have tried F2/F8/F11/F12 to try to factory reset my computer and I get the screens but nothing to reset. I have ran the Dell Diagnostic program and everything has passed the test. The system board/Hard drive/power and memory is working. Can anyone help with this. Thanks P.S. I have tried the self help on Dell's web site and the internet and I can't find anything that works.

Hello, I think I did that, I went onto Dell's web site and put in my service code and it pulled up the computer then it asked if it was XP or Vista and then it gave me everything for that system. Is this what you mean... And also Windows update won't work either, So I downloaded the windows fix it and that won't help.
Make sure the optical drive has both the IDE ribbon cable and the power socket applied. You can try plugging in a different power connector just in case.
You might also try removing the CMOS battery for a minute or so, restarting, and going into the BIOS setup (F2) and resetting to defaults.
If you can get online, Intel has an online chipset identification utility that will update the chipset and video drivers to their latest versions.
If your operating system is corrupted, you have a couple of options. One is to open a command prompt and run the command sfc /scannow. (That is the System File Checker and it will replace any corrupted system files.) Another, if your operating system is XP, is to perform a "repair" install. (You'll need the XP install disc for that.)
If you still have internet access download and install the xpsp3 network install package (300 Megs).
Download: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation ...
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File
This version would need to be copied from cd to usb flash or other media.

You will need to go to Dell support and download the updates for your machine. Follow this link. Not every update in the list will work for you. It depends on the brand components installed in your particular machine. Enter your service tag number to get a better idea for your particular pc.

There is a particular order that updates need to installed, or they won`t work. Keep in mind that bios flash (update) can ruin a motherboard.
