I use the little "volume icon in my taskbar" with great satisfaction.

I have preset all of my mediaplayers' volume controls to whatever I want them to be. At the same time, I have preset my master volume controls for my source volumes to something relevant. In addition, I have preset my speaker knob on my desktop speakers to a satisfactory position. All of this means that whenever I want to raise or lower volume very quickly, I merely need to click on the little volume icon in my taskbar. I can also mute all volumes instantly because my little volume icon contains a mute button.

Since I use my mouse, all of the above means that I do not even need to sit upright from my desk, or to move my forearm muscles very much.

[If I really want to get fancy with everything, I have an icon in my Quicklaunch for my soundcard mixer panel, as well as one for every blasted sound editing/recording program in my computer.]

You may find using your little volume icon in your taskbar quite satisfactory. It beats pulling out the keyboard and pushing the little buttons.

Yeah I know about that, just my roomate has one of those knobs things and its really easy and is sorta the lazier way out .  Thanks for the suggestion.

Not that it's the cheapest way out, but most speakers have volume controls built in. Some actually have an extendable volume control knob or button that you can set up on your desk. If you are thinking of replacing the speakers, you can look for this option.

Yeah thats what I am trying to set up except with my altec lansing 5.1 speakers.
