UNSOLVED
Start up problem
Hi everyone!
I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop 531 and i just flashed my BIOS as written in the manual. Next, when i restarted my computer, it seemed to be not working. I made a few tries with the HDD, the graphic card, the RAM memory, etc. Then i saw something: Clearing the CMOS. I looked in the manual and found how to do it. Unfortunatly, it didn't work. So what can i do? Cause i know the problem comes from my motherboard but the screen is black and there is nothing i can do, can't even start from my Windows CD. Please help me !
Thanks,
John-y25

It's a bummer when that happens.
When you buy a replacement motherboard, make certain it has a warranty, 90 days seems to be the norm, on refurbished parts.
Discount Electronics, Dave5 link to, is a good vendor.

Did you download the latest BIOS from February 2009?
You wouldn't happen to be using a DVI cable, would you?
The reason I ask is that the latest BIOS for a slightly different model (Inspiron 530) that came out around the same time (March 2009 actually) is infamous for DVI cable connectivity issues. The simple solution could be just trying a VGA cable instead if that option is available to you before giving up on the mobo, and if it works, just flash down to the BIOS version before it.

You could resetting the CMOS, by first removing the power cord, hold the power button in for about 10 seconds to discharge the residue power and remove the CR2032 battery, wait 30 minutes, reinstall the battery, reconnect the power cord and see if this makes a difference.
If this does not fix the problem, then the typical remedy for failed, or corrupt BIOS flash, is to replace the motherboard.
If the PC still has a Dell warranty, contact Dell Technical Support and tell the Techie, that you tried to upgrade the BIOS and it failed.
A hint: Flashing the BIOS should only be used to correct a problem, or is necessary for an upgrade, as there's always an inherent risk of failure, when the BIOS are flashed, in other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
