System Setup Program Screens

P.133 in the manual of Dimension 4600 Talks about the program screen available at the System Setup :

"The menu bar at the top provides access to the main program screens:

-Main ...

-Advanced...

-Security...

-Power...

-Boot...

-Exit... "

But when i'm accessing the BIOS by pressing the F2, I can see only the main screen with no "menu at the top"...

Where are all the advanced settings?

There is no menu bar in the 4600 BIOS setup program.  See the following:

So what's written in the manual is strictly a type mistake. So if the bios described in the manual is from a different model this are all the configurations I can change here?

What if I whould want someday to overclock the CPU, there aren't any ratios I can change.

Dell allows only limited access to the BIOS. Furthermore, you cannot overclock a Dell computer.  For further information, visit the Dimension - Upgrade Hardware forum.

The Dimension 4600 has a regular Intel Board, right, so why can't It be flashed to the original bios? the board looks mostly like the D865PESO http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/so/

Yes, you might flash to the Intel version of the BIOS, but keep the following in mind before doing so.

    1.  Although the Dell motherboard is based on the Intel Chipset, it is made to Dell's specifications, not Intel's.  If you flash to the Intel BIOS, some of the functions of the motherboard may not work.

    2.  Once flashed to the Intel version of the BIOS, you cannot flash back to the Dell version because the Dell flash BIOS program first checks for a Dell version of the BIOS and will refuse to flash the BIOS if it does not find a Dell version.

    3. Once flashed to the Intel version of the BIOS, your warranty is null and void.

    4.  The Dell supplied Windows XP CD-ROM is keyed to the Dell BIOS.  If you ever have to reinstall Windows XP, it will not be installable on a machine with a non-Dell BIOS.

If you want to overclock the computer, why not just upgrade the CPU.  In the long run it will likely be cheaper.

Good luck with any decision you make.

Simple save the old BIOS (original dell) with the Intel flash util. then you can flash it back.

It's been a while since I opened this thread...

I thought about saving the old bios using the Intel flash, but I didn't want to risk trying it out. So if you say it not just as an idea but as somthing you actually tried or know someone who did, please tell me.

    Thank you
