task bar

I'm not sure if my problem is with the task bar or what. But here it is, I was emailing someone awhile ago and the next thing I know the bar at the bottom of my screen, with the start button, the time, and etc., was gone.  How do I get it back?  Any help would be much appreciated.  THANKS.

The following is based on Windows XP.  Other windows versions have a similar feature, but commands may be a little different.

The task bar can be moved to the top, bottom or either side of your screen if it is not locked.  It can also be hidden to where it only pops up when you scroll the mouse to the edge of the side of the screen it is on.  Scroll your mouse down to the bottom of the screen until it scrolls past the bottom edge and hold it there for a second or two to see if the task bar pops up.  If not, then try the right, left and upper edge of your screen.  Hopefully this will reveal where it went.

If it pops up, to move it back to the botton, left click on it and hold the button down, then drag it to the bottom or the edge you "want" it on.  Once it is where you want it, right click on it and choose properties.  Under properties is an option called "lock task bar".  This will keep it from being moved again.  You may also check the "hide task bar" which when not in use, it will roll down out of site on the edge you have placed it.  Unchecking this will always show the task bar on that edge.

    Hope this helps.

    jljacks,

It may have simply gotten dragged off the screen. Move your cursor to the very bottom of the monitor screen. If it turns into a double-headed vertical arrow, drag upward and see if the taskbar appears. If so, right-click it and check "Lock the taskbar" when it is in place.
