You would have to buy it retail.

Actually, you can buy the disk (no key) from M$ for about $15-20.  This is what I did.  I had a x32 vista ult license and it worked fine for x64.  It is the same key.  All you need is the install disk.  My only concern would be the fact that your key is from Dell, but it "should" work as long as you keep it on a Dell.

I assume it would be customer service.

According to Chris M who's post i can't seem to find at the momemnt if there is an x64 bit for the 32 bit version that shipped then Dell will provide the the X64 disk for free

Yes, I saw it somewhere on this forum that I can get a copy of 64bit for free from Dell, that is why I ask that who should I contact...will I be calling the customer service for this?

My understanding is that Dell will provide you with a 64bit version on request - but won't support it once installed.

That is pretty great Service for Dell to offer the x64 disk for free.  I am VERY impressed.  They have come a long way in service in the past 3 years.  I remember when I ordered my XPS 700 with XP x64 they wouldn't even ship it to me.  Then they lied and told me the system would not support a 64 bit OS.  I am glad to see they are changing.

As long as 64bit has been around now youd think dell would offer the choice.Its where the os is headed sooner or later.

When you phone you will be told that their dont do it, its not supprt, it for servers only etc etc

 

Took me ages to get it, and i had to email the boss of UK to get anywhere.

 

i was advised that it is the poliy to give them free to poeple who have 32bits, and was sent the dvd.

Not too long ago, I went to resetup my work T61.  It came with Vista preinstalled, and the guys in the back wiped it out, and put XP on it.  Long story short, I have since reinstalled Vista Business.  But I used a Dell disc, and not a Lenovo one, as it didn't arrive with it. 

 

That being said, I would imagine that if you could get your hands on any OEM or Retail Vista x64 DVD, you might have success.  It is different now with Vista, as opposed to XP with the SLP routine that Dell media had on Dell hardware.  With Vista, you will have to enter a product key (on your case), and you will have to activate.  

 

With that, it shouldn't matter which vendor's media you use.  And you don't have to buy another license, as your current license is valid for x86 and x64 versions.

 

You might even be able to download a trial, and upon entering your key, it might even "magically become" a non-trial version.
