battery charge?

A Dell tech told me that I was in trouble because the problem with this laptop was the motherboard, which would cost me about as much to replace as it would if I'd buy a whole new laptop. I kept getting a window when I turned the computer on --the window said that the computer couldn't read my cord and it wouldn't charge the battery.  Okay.  I'm wondering if there is any other way to charge the battery, other than the ordinary way of simply plugging the computer in. Could I pull it out and recharge it somehow? I'm not going to put in a new motherboard--too blasted expensive.  The computer works just fine if it's plugged in.

    Hi jcs17,

The only way to charge the battery by connecting your battery to another similar model system and then charge it and once fully charged you can disconnect the battery from that computer and bring it back to your system, also try connecting another AC adapter and check if the battery is charging on your computer just to make sure if this problem lasts with not the motherboard but the charger alone.
