Dead Battery?

I have an Inspiron 8200, and have two battery packs for the laptop.  The original obviosuly came with the laptop.  I ordered the 2nd battery over two years ago, and have enjoyed the extra usage on long trips without ac power.

At the end of last month I tried to turn my laptop on using AC power with both battery packs in the bays, and the computer wouldn't so much as "flinch".  I noticed the battery cahrge indicator was flashing orange.  I then unplugged the ac power and tried to boot, and had no luck.  I then took turns taking one batter out at a time, and voila when I pulled out one of the batteries, the laptop botted on both ac & dc power.  I then tried to shuffle the bays that each battery was in.  The same end result followed.....whenever I had the "faulty" battery plugged in (regardless of the bay), if the laptop wa soff it wouldn't boot.  If the laptop was on, it would completely freeze.  And in all instances, the orange flashing light came on the battery LED.

No modifications have been made to the laptop, it hasn't been dropped, or anything.  So I'm asusming the battery has somehow become defective or just "died".  Has anybody had this experience in the past?  Should I just try to get a replacement battery under warranty, or is there a possible fix?

I recently had this issue with my original battery. After looking around in these forums and searching on the web, it turned out to be a dead battery for sure. I just purchased another one from the Dell site and all was well when it came in.

Thanks for the input.  The Ebay search is a good idea.  I guess I just need ot be sure to find a battery that is in a Dell "casing" for an Inspiron 8200.  That's ususally my biggest concern with laptops.  Once you buy it from a manufactureur, you're at their mercy to pay whatever they charge you  for specific proprietary items that nobody else produces (i.e. dead batteries that need to fit into a specific drive bay size).......I'll get searching, as I was told that the battery only had a one year warranty.
