Hoe do I do This?

I have an Inspiron 4000 that I want to hook up to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but I want the lid closed on the laptop all the time. How do I get it to do this? I do not have a docking station for it.

You will have to open the lid to turn it on without a port replicator, there is no other way unless you leave it on all the time.  You should be able to toggle the FN-F5 keys to an external display and then you would be able to close the lid, provided you do not have it set to suspend or hibernate upon closing the lid.
