Inspiron 1100 notebook start up problems
Hi, My 1100 Inspiron will not start up at all with or without the ac adapter.The ac adapter green light on the power cord lights up but nothing else. Also it is not under warranty anymore. Thank you in advance for your help or suggestions.
Thanks...Just got off the phone with dell support and tried all that except another power cord (don't have another one).Nothing worked and they seem to think its the motherboard and directed me to the out of warranty dept.They told me a new motherboard would be $699.00.The notebook only cost me $749.00 brand new.It's about a year and a half old and dead...I'm not too happy with Dell right now.
Yeah i know how u feel. U can get cheaper motherboards else where like www.ebay.com or www.parts-people.com however u have to fit it yourself unless u get someone to do it for u. Try that power cord first though.
- If after getting a replacement A/C adapter and it still not working, try booting up without the battery, if that doesn't work and you have a good grasp on electronics, connect only the essential to the motherboard. Only have the motherboard/video/lcd/memory connected, power it up, if it still refuses to power up, something is furbared with the motherboard :(

- Ok,Here is where I'm at....I took it in to a local computer store and had them check it out for $40.00.They had another power cord (three pin Dell but not exactly like mine)Does this matter? Would any three pin Dell adapter work or do I have to have the exact one for an 1100? Any way this did not help.It is still dead and when they opened it up they concluded that the motherboard is bad.I then took it to work to a co-worker that fixes cpus and notebooks on the side. He took it apart and never really found anything noticebly fried.The only thing he found that he said was strange and probably not good at all was the ac adapter was putting out 43 volts when he tested it and it is rated for 20 volts.Could this be the reason the notebook no longer works?I have also looked around for another motherboard but have not found any that reasonable in price.Also If I do get another motherboard would you recommend that I get another ac adapter too? Thanks again for all your help.....gman5150
