Inspiron 9100 Delayed?

Well I've been looking at various Forums for a while and got and update on my order. Seeing and I am not the only person who has ordered a 9100 and on the order status page I see there is no progress, being that its shows to be in production but not even in the kitting stage.

So I read somewhere that there might be a delay of an additional 10 days meaning, the lead time went from 10 days to 20 or 1 working month. So an order placed on March 1 would ship April 1.

So I think there are a couple of issues all them having to do with graphics.. anyone else have a clue?

Waiting for: I9100/512MB/60GDHDD/DVD/WUXGA/Wifi/Etc...

Yeah, as you'll see in several threads here, the first batch of Inspiron XPS units are having graphical issues causing lockups, etc. Well since the XPS & 9100 relate so much, there's been a halt in production to get this ironed out, so basically everybody's est. ship date is just falling further and further away. I ordered mine 3/14/04 and have an est. ship date of April 7th...I may end up cancelling in the meantime if I find a better deal though, as that's quite a long time, escp. considering these newly found problems may push that date even further back.

    Mine was an i9100, 1GB RAM, DVD +R/RW, 60GB @ 7200RPM, 64MB Radeon 9700

This is the thread to watch:

I don't mind the wait if Dell guarantees that the ATI GPU is the problem in this case and the 9100 I get does not have that problem.

Hah, right!  I've had mine on order since 2/25, and been in the 'build' stage nearly the entire time.  The reasons I've seen posted for the delay coming from Dell, are backorder of the primary battery with the subwoofer, and backorder of the pentium 4 chips.

Since my order had both batteries, I just send ship the other battery later.  They couldn't do that they said.  But they kindly said it the "New" date my order would probably ship would be Feb 9th.

Never did they say it was a delay due to a shipment of bad GPU's but it does look like the first batch of 9100s/XPSs got bad ones.

Dell is soooo late, they should be bending over backwards to keep everybody that has an order on hand as customers, like discounts, free shipping, but they don't care.

I canceled my I9100 order. Went with a much cheaper (and much less powerful) 600m. I saved over $500, I'll use that money to build an awesome powerhouse home system.

There is word that the production of 9100 and XPS may be halted till the ATI GPU unit issue is resolved.

This could also be a reason causing the real delay... in addition the the battery availibility.

This is why I posted this on this thread.

There is word - from where? This is the official Dell forum and there is nothing but random people repeating what the wage slaves at Dell are feeding them.

These are supposed to be the new hotness from Dell and Dell doesn't have the courtesy or cojones to step up and say "Yes, there is a delay. We are trying to solve "problem X" and the units will ship by XXXX at the latest?"

This is a pretty poor way to manage a new system line.
