L501X Audio Driver Problems

Hey guys!

Recently, I decided to update my Realtek drivers for my L501X, but the install shield wizard always crashed at the start, saying that there was another installation in progress and to close applications. Despite doing everything I could come up with, ending processes and the like, nothing made it run. Here are the details:

Error Code:	-5006 : 0x8000ffff

As a result, I decided to update the driver manually through Device Manager, which worked halfway. I now have the newest codecs, but my Waves Maxx Audio 3 seems to be useless now. I have reinstalled Quickset to try and make the button work, but that didn't help. I can get it to run by running Dell Audio, but then all the Presets for Waves Audio are empty. I've a feeling Windows did not install everything. Is there a way to either make Install Shield Wizard cooperate or to get the presets (and maybe anything else that's missing)?
I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community.  I would first check and uninstall any sound drivers.  Click control panel, programs and features and look for Realtek or ALC665 Audio.  You may also need to reinstall any Creative programs and Waves Maxx as well, be sure to have the media handy before uninstalling.

Once the drivers have been removed restart the system and then downloaded the latest Realtek driver

After that, if needed, reinstall the waves Audio and the Creative software.

Please let me know if this helps.

    Thank you for the answer!

What media are you talking about? My computer came with just one disc, I think and it's not of any use, that I remember (I don't have it with me at the moment). I haven't tried uninstalling Creative and Waves Maxx as well, only the driver, so I'll try that, I guess. Doesn't the software come with the drivers, anyway?

Hmmm, there may be Windows corruption possibly caused by the update.   I would run diagnostics first to verify that the hardware is good.  The following link leads to a great document on the different types of diagnostics.

Run the online audio diagnostic and if that passes,  run the out of the OS diagnostics, once the basic diagnostics complete if you get the option choose hardware diagnostics, then custom tests and then audio test.  If you hear the song playing with the audio test then you now that the hardware is good.   At that point you may wish to look at getting a registry cleaner, or running system restore or possibly even reimaging the system.  The following link will give more instructions on system restore or reimaging the system if you decide to go that route.

Update: I tried uninstalling the Realtek HD Audio Driver that's in Programs in Control Panel, and the Wizard gave me the same error as when I tried installing.
