Need help with finding drivers
I recently bought a refurbished laptop Inspiron E1505, with OS Windows XP media center. I decided to get XP professional, and after I installed it I noticed all my previous devices are not available, most importantly ATI Radeon X1400.
Can anybody please help me on what to do? I tried the service tag thing but it said it has expired.

Hi dbramlet,I too am having the same problem. Namely, I've had to re-install XP on my Inspiron 6400/E1505 as well and can't seem to get the video adapter to be recognised. I've already been to the link you provided but there is no video adapter listing there (as there is for other systems) so it doesn't appear Dell has provided the Video drivers for this model. I've been experimenting with drivers listed for other similer Inspiron's but no luck so far. Any suggestions? TIA. //rick//997

Forgot to add that some of these drivers require net framework to be install first like the ATI driver. I will post this also. But if you reinstalled windows XP chances are you need to download netframe 1.1 at least and make sure your directx is up to date which is version 9.0c and if not get that from Microsoft also. The directx version is listed when you rund dxdiag. Read this:This driver has been packaged without .NET to allow customers quicker downloading. The Dell image already contains .net. Please ensure .NET Framework is installed before installing ATI Control Center. You can get .NET from Microsoft Windows Update or at the Microsoft website here:

I am going to have to look again. I was pretty sure I saw the display adapters listed. Do you know exactly which video card is on your laptop? If not and you don't have the invoice select start>run and type in dxdiag. Your system information will be there. The only thing that bothered me sending this link was it having 6400/E1505 listed and nothing that is just E1505 so I assume the drive was for all the 1505's. Did you happen to get a drives CD with your laptop? I am told Dell don't send those anymore but worth asking. Give us your exact video adapter card if you can and lets go from there. I am interested in what adapter is running right now and if it is just a standard display driver since you said your adapter cannot be recognized. But if you have installed several other video drivers my first suggestion is that you need to uninstall all those and start over from scratch after a reboot. Once you uninstall them all and reboot the computer should find your correct adapter. But I will look at the link again.Ok, just looked again and at the bottom there is a list of video adapters. Wow dbramlet,Thanks for posting so much help. I swear the Video adapter did not show up on that screen when I looked yesterday but bam...they're there now. My laptop has the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 video card so the Driver for Intel 945GM Graphics adapters driver should work (which I've already tried). Think you have the right solution, I've either hosed it up by trying too many different video driver packages or I need to fully update directx or do the NET framework update. One last post on this as I don't want to wear out my welcome! When you installed Net Framework 1.1 it may have created a user account called aspenet. If so it may be requiring you to logon now at bootup. I always hated that so if you have to now and hate doing it just go to user accounts and delete the aspenet account and allow windows to save the account. Might see if an option is there to disable that account first. But if you didn't get that account added then I wasted my old tired fingers typing!dbramlet997

Well I am happy I could offer help to you both Mikayel and rickdf! I try to help and many times I am off base and get frustrated when I cannot actually see the problem. Sometimes I get lucky. But in both your cases I have found more and more and especially with ATI cards which I am familiar with they require net frame to be installed first. Plus if you have even another older ATI driver installed you have to uninstall the old driver first. So happens I guessed right! But I am glad you got the driver installed and I appreciate you both letting me know I helped a bit. Makes me want to keep trying to help. yeah, it did do that, so I deleted that aspenet thing :) Didn't really care that much at that moment cause I was so happy I fixed the video driver. Was literally freaking out over it. Once again, thanks a bunch.
