Processor speed never steps up
My girlfriend got a Latitude d610 with a 1.73 ghz Pentium M a few months ago. I recently noticed that it runs at 795 mhz all the time, even when the computer is at full CPU load. I know about Speed Step and that the processor runs at a reduced clock speed to save power, but it's supposed to step up when needed right? I have a laptop (not a Dell) and I know how it works, but I can't seem to figure hers out. I looked for some software to adjust the power/processor settings but could find none. I saw the Dell Quickset stuff, but it had nothing to do with the processor settings as far as I could tell.
What do I need to do to get the processor speed to change correctly? I haven't looked at the BIOS yet, could something be set wrong there?

So I chatted online with a Dell techical support representative to figure out what the deal was. It was explained to me that this was normal operation and there was nothing that could be done to change it. I find it ridiculous that when running on batteries your processor must run at less than half speed. There should be a setting where the user can change this behavior. I guess I'll be moving to some third-party software to resolve this issue.
