Safely Remove Hardware icon
I have a new i8600, and in the taskbar is the "safely remove harware" icon.When I click on it it says ""_NEC DVD+RW ND-6500A-(D:)" I've clicked stop and its come up safelty remove hardware, but it wont go away. This has happened since I used a USB port with my flash drive. I really dont think this is supposed to be there. Anyone know anything about this.

The safely remove hardware icon is always there on any notebook I have ever used.
If it really bothers you once you stop the CD/DVD whatever drive REMOVE it from the system. Whether it is stopped or not and still installed you will have that icon and you may always have that icon.

On the I8600, your media bay (that's where the CD/DVD, floppy drive or extra hard drives goes) is actually a USB connection. So it should show up in your list in the Safely Remove Hardware icon. If you stop the CD/DVD device and remove it, the icon in your system tray will disappear. As soon as you put the CD/DVD back in, the icon will come back.

It doesnt really bother me it being there, what bothers me is, it says its the DVD CD which has nothing to do with the USB ports. I would have thought if nothing is connected to the USB ports then when you click on that icon, nothing should be there. Thanks for your reply

Your Safely Remove Hardware icon is functioning properly, as I understand your question. It is letting you know that if you STOP the CD/DVD drive, you can remove it safely without shutting down your system. I think you believe that the icon applies only to devices plugged into the USB port--an incorrect assumption. Hope this helps.

Yes I did believe it was for only things plugged into the USB ports. And yes when I took out the CD it went away. :)

If seeing that icon is bothering you, right click on the toolbar, then properties and make sure the hide icons when inactive box is checked. You can also go into customize and play around.:smileyhappy:
