If you have the latest BIOS you do not need the CD. If the battery isn't charging but the adapter is OK, the mainboard is faulty.

Hi, I also have one of the new 66Whr batts. Mine is in a C610. The old battery was taking 2 hours to charge. Leduke30 sugjested a new battery. I still think that was a good idea. But it is also taking 2 hours to charge this new battery. This is with the notebook powered down and doing nothing but charging the battery. The BIOS is the latest. Do you think I also have a Mobo issue? Thanks, LittleDoc

Here's the strange story of my battery (66Whr) and my Dell Inspiron 2500. As my first post stated, I couldn't get my new 66WHR to charge. I had come to the same conclusion as the first reply to my question that is was probably a bad motherboard. I was at the point where I was just going to throw the Inspiron away; new battery and all. As I pulled the 66WHR out of the laptop I realized that this was the same shape as my battery in my Dell Latitude C610 (yes I have this also). So, for the heck of it, I put the new battery in my C610 and noticed that the charging light came on (I didn't get too excited since the light also came on with the Inspiron). Of course the battery didn't charge. For some reason I pulled the ac adapter from the C610. The 66WHR had a bit of charge in it and kept the C610 on for about 10 minutes, then the charging light went to red and the laptop shutdown. I put the ac adapter back on, shut the lid of the computer and went to bed. In the morning, I booted the C610, unplugged the ac adapter and to my amazement the battery was fully charged. I stuck it in the Inspiron. The Inspiron stayed up for two hours before it turned off. I put in the ac adapter, turned off the Inspiron and let it sit for 24 hours. When I booted it up, the battery had charged to 57%. I let it run down to 7%, then tried to charge it. But it would only charge to 57%. So, for the heck of it, I put it back in the C610 and charged it up to 100%. I then put it back in the Inspiron and let it run down to 5%. I then put the ac adaptor on,left it overnight and I jumped for joy as it had finally charged 100%. I'm not sure if this info will help anyone, but it proved to me that for some reason, the battery itself just needed to wake up.If it wasn't for my C610, I would of never known that the Inspiron was OK. Maybe older batteries that have sat for awhile in a warehouse need zapped in order to start the charge process. If I had to truly describe everything I did to get the battery going, the description would be close to having an old car where the starter is starting to go bad. You turn the key, but all you get is a click. So you keep trying and FINALLY the engine starts to turn over.
