Studio 17 fingerprint driver - Win 7

Hi there,
I've just completed a full clean install of Win 7 on my Dell Studio (1737) laptop. I can't seem to find the correct fingerprint driver to download. I'm using win 7 x64.

I can see the AuthenTec Inc. AES2810 Driver under device manager and it says it's working.

I have the digital persona software installed and it tells me the fingerprint reader is not installed or can't be detected.

Any idea what reader software/driver I should be using?

Thanks

What did you do for the Notebook Utility program?

What did you do for the Chipset drivers?

What did you do for your network card?

Fingerprint software is under security. Authentec AES2810

    maxy007,

Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forum.  If you haven't tried this already, I would suggest reinstalling the latest driver for the fingerprint reader from support.dell.com (available here).  That may cause the service to start operating properly.

    Hi,

I have the same problem as you. I did figure out exactly what the problem is but I cannot understand how to fix it. Problem is that the Authentec Fingerprint Service has problems starting. In the services, it is listed as started and the starting mode is Automatic. However, the reader is not detected. If you turn the service off and start it again, then it is detected properly. On restart, it is back to not detected. I don't understand why it does that but that is the problem.

I seriously hope Dell can provide a solution for this as this is becoming a real pain.

    Hi,

I tried reinstalling the drivers many times. I uninstalled them and reinstalled and I rolled back to see if old versions work. None of them seem to do so. I don't believe it is the driver's fault but the service's fault. I think eventhough the service status says Started, it is not running for some reason. And because of that, the reader is not detecting. Once I restart the service, it works fine.

Kindly sort this out as soon as possible.

Forgot to include my laptop spec. It's Studio 1737 and Windows 7 Ultimate. The biometric is AES2810 and the driver version is 8.5.0.251.

    HI JB,

    Good pickup on the service!!

I uninstalled all drivers, software and deleted the biometric data in control panel  then cleaned up after each install/uninstall using CCleaner.

I think I got the reader to actually detect once. Still not working and very, very annoyed :emotion-12:

    Mitch,

Usually when you have to reinstall the operating system using a cd/dvd, you have to install the drivers in this order, but I noticed that not all the drivers are there. They are for Vista but not Windows 7.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first(if applicable), then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software(if applicable)
    Chipset or SMBus driver
    Processor Driver (if applicable)
    Video
    Audio (sound)
    Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
    Modem
    Network Card

    QuickSet(Laptop only)

    Hi Pudgy,

I'm not sure what you mean???

Do you mean did I get the Chipset, Network and utility program working??  If so yes I did all but the fingerprint reader.

I went to the Dell downloads site and installed the Win 7 drivers.

I succeed on installing the drivers but now I cannot make Windows 7 recognize it as security device. In Windows Vista, I had the option to login by adding my password or with the fingerprint reader.

In Vista I had installed this software: Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader

Does anyone knows if Dell plans to provide an update for this software?

    Specs:
    Studio 1737
    Windows 7 Ultimate
Biometric AES2810 and the driver version is 8.5.0.251.

I got mine to work but cannot remember exactly how. I think I got out my fingerprint reader disks and installed the drivers in the Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then install the proper drivers.

After you restart, thing should start working after you register your fingerprints. I then think there might be a windows update to update the drivers the rest of the way.

    Rick

You could try installing the Downloaded drivers from Dell's website in the compatibility mode but I don't think that will work.

I'm guessing you're using windows 7 32 bit? I installed 64bit pro. The software that came with my studio 1535 originally states on install that it will not work with 64bit. I contacted Dell; they sent a new CD super fast. Problem is, same message about needing a 64 bit version of the software. Any ideas? Is there a 64 bit version of digital persona?
