WiFi card easily looses link
Hi all, this is my first message,
I have a Dell Studio with Windows 7 home edition. WiFi Mini Wireless 1520. All drivers up to date.
If I connect from the same room where the router is, there's no problem, I can connect and I don't lose conection.
If I try to connect from my living room the signal is about 50-60%, it connects, and after a while (10seg-1min) windows says 'Limited access'. This also has happened to me in other houses if I am not close to router. I have no firewall at the moment, no antivirus (just disabled them yesterday just in case).
In the living room, connecting to the same router, I have an XBOX 360 wireless adapter, 2 HTC Desire's, and many other's devices can connect too, without losing the link.
¿Is this a hardware related problem? ¿May I replace the card?

Hi Swapnajan,
the power management checkbox worked a little. Now it looses the link less times, and the card recovers it sooner.
But, it is not suficient. I want to try old drivers but yesterday I did a search in Dell and there was no old drivers. I have 5.21.30.0 (or so, I'm not in home atm).
Today I have burned a Linux live CD to check if this behaviur happens on Linux, and see it's logs if apply.
I will inform. There's somewhere in dell.com to look for old drivers?

To help you with your search for the old drivers, could you please provide me with the following details? The exact system model and the operating system installed in the system now.

Hi,
Please find below the link for the Dell Wireless 1520 wireless card driver. Please use the link to view the page and scroll down to the bottom and locate “Previous Versions”. You may select any of the previous versions and install it accordingly.

Since you are looking to install the old driver, you may use the one that is released on 1/11/2010.

Hi,
From your post I understand that the card is able to give you the best performance when you are close by the router. Before changing the card you may try the below mentioned steps.
• Open Device Manager and locate the Wireless card.
• Right Clock on the Dell Wireless 1520 half mini card and select Properties.
• In the properties window select the Advanced tab.
• From the list of options available locate Roam Tendency and set it to aggressive.
• Locate minimum power Consumption and Disable it.
• Select the Power management Tab and Remove the check mark for the option “Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power.
• Click on OK and try the wireless again.
