I ordered a new 20 ich monitor for my 80 year old father-in-law who has a vision problem but is otherwise active and electronically sharp. It will not power on. He has tried several outlets, indicates the green transformer light works, but gets no light to the monitor button. He called India and ended up being sent another monitor which behaves identically. The newest monitor came without a return label for the original. I have now over $1000 on my card without resolution. Politely the second call to India resulted in the promise to send a new power cord this coming monday. My fatherinlaw took the newest monitor to a local shop that hooked it to 3 different computers and got nothing either. He did this as he felt he must be doing something wrong. His comment was that the switch is not responsive and appears to be inactive. No light at monitor whatsoever. I tried the internet tech service sight but got side tracked with the service tag requirement. I called my father-in-law who lives 900 miles away and he tried to identify it on the back of his units....unsuccessfully. I tried to check on the back of my 17 inch LCD and don't see it either. Without the tag, I could not submit. This is a major frustration and doesn't reflect well on Dell. I am an active Dell supported and ordered the monitor from them as such. Any ideas? Just wait for the new power cord?? I don't think thats the problem but could be wrong. Appreciate any ideas!

The service tag number should be on the paper work. Could he fax it to you or send it as a jpg?
