Okay. I have been hung up on, made to wait until customer care was closed (or at least doesnt not answer), transferred, etc, etc.
I bought a 2007WFP. It has gradient banding (nice work dell letting us buy it with this issue).
I have been told by tech support that the issue is with my video card (even though I have hooked the monitor to 3 different computers all with same issue).
I really dont want to have to go to the BBB or use other means in order to rectify my situation. So here's what I suggest...
A mod, supervisor, someone. Contact me by my email address and arrange to contact me by phone or, just contact me by phone. I suggest you do this sooner than later.
Oh man. I did tons of research on LCD's and finaly decided to get a 2007FP. I just recieved it on the 14th or 15, and am just now finding out about all these problems and revisions. I'm a digital artist who will be the laughing stock of his friends since i was all about getting a great LCD for digital painting.
How can i tell what version i have?
I'm sure its not the new one though since i can see banding in gradients. Its only in gradients though. Everything seems to look fine, but when i draw a gradient in photoshop i can see little bands in it.
This is an awesome nightmare. After i buy the LCD i fire up photoshop and see the banding. Then on these forums i read all about how bad it is. Some people said that the S-Video looks better so i hooked it up. Same amount of banding but i can see flickering running through it as well!! so it was back to the DVI. Then i go to dell.com and find out that the monitor i JUST bought is at a far cheaper pricepoint :).
Most likely i'll just end up sticking with the banding. I wish there was some sort of home fix for this.
2007FP, 2007WFP, 2407WFP Firmware revisions - A00 Initial release A01 In Desktop Mode only, switched off the Faroudja video processing which causes the banding A02 Color tweaking in the Service Menu
A02 is the fix. If you have A00 or A01, get it exchanged for A02.
or you can do your own tweaking - instructions here:
The gradient banding is a side effect of the Faroudja Adaptive Color and Contrast (ACC) and Active Color Management (ACM) technologies incorporated into the panel controller.
I found a fix for it. Although it took some doing, caused me a lot of frustration. I contacted customer service using chat because contacting by phone caused people to not want to help.
Anyways, the fix is, sending it back and buying a different brand, i.e., viewsonic, benQ, etc. Customer support/service is neither. They only attempt to frustrate you and try to make you feel stupid and that it is your own fault.
If you have a product that is broken (and simply disabling something that should work in order to fix something is not actually a fix because, well...its still broken.) send it back, pay the 20 bucks shipping or contact support and complain, contact the better business bureau (as I was one click away before getting satisfaction) and complain there and maybe even file a complaint on planetfeedback com. This may get your situation resolved if you are getting no satisfaction from customer (non) support.
