Webcam & Audio are not working

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 with Windows Vista (64bit- I think) and an integrated webcam.

I tried to Skype the other day and couldn't get the video or audio to work.

When I open the Dell Web Cam Center it tells me, "No supported camera detected. Please plug in to continue."

I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. However, when I reinstalled the driver I was having trouble finding it on the Dell website and I'm not sure that the correct one is installed.

Please help me fix this issue.

Thank you!

    Hi Tcbubble,

Please check in Device Manager if the webcam is detected.

    • Press and hold the Windows key and press 'R' key. This will open the run window
    • Type 'devmgmt.msc' without the parenthesis, click on 'Ok'
    • Look for 'Imaging Devices', expand and check if webcam if detected.

If the webcam is not detected. then uninstall USB Root Hub from Device Manager:

Note: Ensure that all USB devices are disconnected from the computer.

    • Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’
    • From the list, look for ‘USB Root Hub’
    • Right click, choose ‘Uninstall’, choose ‘Ok’
    • Uninstall all ‘USB Root Hub’ listed
    • Wait for all the drivers to get uninstalled
    • Restarted the computer
    • Restarting the computer will install ‘USB Root Hub’s automatically on the computer.Check the functionality of the webcam

Try to press gently around the webcam panel for any loose connection.
You can download and install the Webcam software from the link http://dell.to/TjXOwa

If the above steps do not work, then the webcam might need a replacement. Please reply if you have any questions.
