A
backup of a mailbox or public folder is a brick-level backup. Each
mailbox item is saved individually at the folder level, and each public
folder item is saved individually at the item level. This allows for
recovery of any mailbox or public folder item directly to the original
Exchange server.
When performing a mailbox (brick-level) backup, there is an option
of specifying the level at which mailbox items can be recovered. The
level is specified on the NetWorker Module tab of the Backup
Options dialog box:
◆ The Folder Level setting allows for the recovery of mailbox items
at the folder level only. This results in smaller client file indexes, which
greatly enhances the performance of the NetWorker server at recovery
time. This setting is beneficial in large Exchange environments, where
client file indexes can become extremely large.
◆ The Item Level setting allows for the recovery of individual mailbox
items. This setting provides finer granularity, but results in larger client
file indexes on the NetWorker server. Public folder items can be recovered
at the item level only.
I hope this clears. See backup comman guide in docs and pay attention to what -G option does.
i forgot to mention that the exchange module is 5.0 i know 4.1 does not support incremental backups of the mail boxes, but in module 5.0 there is an item level and a folder level backups. the folder level needs to be full for the mail boxes, but what about the item level, could it be done incrementaly and be scheduled or manually.
it is mentioned in the document that: Mailboxes and public folders can be backed up at both level Full, and level Incremental. Level Incremental backups decrease the time required for backup operations. but what confuses me is this sentence: Incremental mailbox backups can only be used in conjunction with item level index granularity. is it the same, just insert the saveset MSEXCH:MB and schedule it. does this do the job because there is the folder level that should be full, and there is the item level that could be incremental. so, my question is if the saveset was MSEXCH:MB, and the schedule was incremental, would it take it as a folder level or an item level in order to perform the right backup
Please refer to documentation - it is all described in there. Here is one part:
When folder level index granularity is selected, all incremental
mailbox backups are promoted to full backups. Incremental
mailbox backups can only be used in conjunction with item level
index granularity.
