Go to SolutionHPUX\Windows Scanner command compatibility
Hi All,
We have 2 datazones (2 Networker servers - one Windows, one HPUX). The HPUX Networker server is to be demised and I would like to know if its possible to run a scanner command from the Windows server, on the tapes which were written by the HPUX server.
If I use the scanner command on all of the HPUX written tapes, I believe this will "merge the 2 Networker server databases", and will allow me to do restores of both the windows server backups, and the HPUX server backups.
Could anyone let me know if this approach should work? I.e. Can a windows Networker server read tapes written by an HPUX Networker server?
In addition, are there any issues with restoring data which was written with Networker 6.x to a Networker server with 7.x?
Kind Regards
Mark

The only potential issues that I can think of are:
1) Block size - The default tape block size on Windows is 64k. This will need to be adjusted at the OS driver level to match the blocksize used when the tapes were written. This is usually a registry change and is SCSI card / HBA card specific.
2) Media read errors due to the age of the tape.
