I am trying to connect a donated used computer to a wireless access point so some elderly nuns can learn to use the internet. I received the old computer, Dell Optiplex G10 with Windows98SE, but without a disc. I have a Netgear adapter, which, when I connect it, asks for a driver which it says is on the CD ROM for 98SE. The computer donor did not provide the disc. Is there anyway that Microsoft or Dell will permit me to locate and download the driver from some website? If so, can I download it to a CD on another computer where I have an internet connection, then transfer it to the Windows98SE computer? Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you.
The easiest way to do this would be to download to a flash drive, but a CD will work equally well. Since you did not provide the model of the card, I cannot locate the driver for you. You can use either the Netgear site, or if this is the adapter that came with this desktop, you can go to the main Dell support site, look up the model number (hint, there is no Optiplex model G10, so check the front of the computer), and you'll find all of the drivers for that machine there.
Oh, and, yes, Microsoft and Dell will allow anyone to download and install device drivers. This is fairly routine.
Thanks for such quick help. I will try it tomorrow. The device is a Wireless WG111v3 Adapter for a USB port. I'll let you know how it works. I found the driver that says it is for Windows and WG111 on the Netgear site. The computer is Dell Optiplex GX1. I found the Dell driver, but I think it it probably the Netgear one i want to use because the device is made by Netgear. Thanks again for such quick help.
