I just set up my true mobile 2300 wireless router after some ill fated setup mistakes. Everything works fine, but I had to revmove my firewall and antivirus software to fix it. Now I want to protect my PCs (wireless laptop and wired desktop) and wireless network and someone suggested I encrypt my wireless router and wireless card with matching access code. How do I do this? Afterwards it was suggested I install antivirus software on both PCs, but I would like to start first with the router encryption. Can anyone help?
Encrypting the wireless connection protects you from others using your internet connection, and getting access to your PCs through the wireless network - but they have to be within range of your signal. That's a threat you have to judge based on distance from your home to anyplace someone could be sitting with another wireless PC.
Encryption does nothing to prevent those threats to your PC that come through the internet - email viruses, worms, spyware.
